- Time yourself: Can you configure a basic three-router OSPF topology with inter-VLAN routing in under 20 minutes? If not, keep practicing. Speed reflects understanding.
- Use real or near-real platforms: Packet Tracer is fine for beginners, but move to GNS3 or EVE-NG with actual IOS images, or better yet, practice on physical equipment. The CLI behavior, the error messages, the timing — it all matters.
- Document your troubleshooting: Keep a lab notebook. Write down what broke, what symptoms you saw, what commands you used to diagnose, and what the fix was. This builds your troubleshooting pattern library.
