Ninety days strikes a balance between intensive study and allowing enough time for concepts to sink in. It requires dedication but is achievable with consistent effort. This plan assumes you can dedicate at least 2-3 hours on weekdays and 4-6 hours on weekends to your studies.

Phase 1: The Foundations (Weeks 1-4)

This phase is all about building a strong theoretical base. Don't rush through these fundamental concepts.

Week 1: Network Fundamentals & OSI Model

  • Introduction to Networking: What is a network? Types of networks (LAN, WAN, MAN), Network Topologies (Bus, Star, Ring, Mesh).
  • OSI Model: Understand all seven layers (Physical, Data Link, Network, Transport, Session, Presentation, Application) and their functions. Focus on data encapsulation and decapsulation.
  • TCP/IP Model: Compare and contrast with the OSI model. Understand its four layers (Network Access, Internet, Transport, Application).
  • Cabling & Connectors: Ethernet standards (10/100/1000 Mbps), UTP/STP, Fiber Optics, RJ45, Straight-through vs. Crossover cables.
  • Initial Lab Work: Get familiar with Cisco Packet Tracer. Practice basic device placement and cable connections.

Week 2: IP Addressing & Subnetting Basics

Week 5: Dynamic Routing - OSPF

  • Introduction to Dynamic Routing: Advantages over static routing.
  • OSPF (Open Shortest Path First): Link-state routing protocol. Understand OSPF areas, router IDs, neighbor relationships, DR/BDR.
  • Lab Work: Configure single-area OSPF on multiple routers. Verify neighbor adjacencies and routing tables.

Week 6: IP Services & Security Basics

  • DHCP: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. Configure DHCP server on a router.
